WAUKESHA, Wis. - Carroll's men's soccer team started the 2025 season in style Friday night, defeating Benedictine (IL) in their first game of the year. The Pios received three goals from hometown hero
Iskander Sharipov, a freshman from Waukesha, Wis, leading them to victory.
Sharipov wasted no time in getting his collegiate career started, scoring the game's first goal just three minutes into the contest when he lofted the ball over the Benedictine Goal Keeper's head from about 20 yards out, thanks to a beautiful assist from
Marti Solanelles. The Pioneers would double their lead in the 18th minute when
Matthew Meke scored on an assist from
Jackson Greear. Benedictine would cut that lead in half just four minutes later on a goal from Kendall Andrewin, getting the Eagles on the board.
After taking a 2-1 lead into halftime, Sharipov scored his second goal in the 63rd minute on a pass from Solanelles, before capping the scoring and completing his hat trick with a goal in the 76th minute, with the assist credited to
Nico Hinten.
Carroll Goal Keeper
Jason Brunger played all 90 minutes between the pipes for the Pioneers, making six saves. His counterpart, Jordan Rolon, also played all 90 minutes for Benedictine, saving six shots.
The Pios will be in action again on Sunday when they'll have their work cut out for them against the number seven team in Division-III, UW-Eau Claire. That contest will begin at 1 p.m. at Schneider Stadium in Waukesha, Wis.
