Box Score 4 GRINNELL, Iowa - Carroll's volleyball team opened their 2025 season over the weekend, splitting a pair of games on both Friday night and Saturday afternoon. The Pios defeated the host team Central College in four sets, while losing to Dubuque in four frames, before earning a three-set victory against Knox on Saturday, while ending the tournament with a four-set loss to Cornell.
vs. University of Dubuque
The opening match of the tournament started on a high note for the Pioneers (2-2), as they won the first set 25-18. Dubuque would take the next three tightly-contested frames however, 25-23, 25-20, 25-21.
Things were even for the majority of the match, with each team recording 48 digs and Dubuque holding a narrow 54-52 edge in kills. The Spartans also had two more service aces (8-6) and blocks (5-3) than Carroll.
The Pioneers were led by Audfrey Rosenbaum and
Bronwyn Rowse, whom each posted 15 kills.
Ashley Miller paced the team with 41 assists, while
Maggie McGough finished with a team-high 17 digs.
Taylor Raley also contributed with a team-high three aces, to go along with eight digs.
vs. Central College
The second match of the day was the opposite of the first, with Carroll dropping the first set 25-11, before winning the next three 25-21, 25-22, 25-17 to earn their first win of the season.
Carroll led Central in nearly every major statistical category, holding a 44-42 advantage in kills, and a 61-51 advantage in digs, while also recording 41 assists to Central's 38.
Rosenbaum once again led the team in kills (13), while also recording a team-high three blocks. Miller led the Pios in both aces (5) and assists (35), while McGough led the team in digs once again with 24.
vs. Knox College
Carroll began Saturday's second day of competition with a straight set victory of 25-15, 25-15, 25-19 against former Midwest Conference foe Knox College.
The Pioneers finished the match with 44 kills, while Knox finished with just 21. Carroll also held a 38-18 edge in assists and a 34-25 digs advantage.
Karlee Riggs led the Pioneers with 15 kills, while
Payton Depies finished with a team-high 18 assists.
Samantha Miserendino finished with nine digs to lead the Pios.
vs. Cornell College
The final match of the weekend resulted in a 14-25, 25-22, 25-16, 25-20 loss to Cornell College.
Carroll finished with 38 kills, while Cornell posted 48. Cornell also held an advantage in both assists (44-33) and digs (57-53).
Leading the way for the Pioneers was Rowse, who finished with 10 kills. Brooklyn Johnson paced the team with four blocks, while Raley and Miller led the team in aces (4) and assists (22), respectively. McGough once again led the team in digs, with 15.
The Pioneers will now get ready to travel to the Lone Star State, as they will take part in the East Texas Baptist University Invitational, beginning Friday in Marshall, Texas. The two-day event will begin with the Pios playing University of Dallas and #14 East Texas Baptist at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., respectively.
