WAUKESHA, Wis. - Carroll's home opener was a hard fought 1-1 draw that saw both teams convert their penalty kick opportunities. While Dubuque controlled time of possession (66%) and the shot battle (20-2), Carroll's defense continuously stymied their attacks.
Carroll's
Carmella Nowak substituted late in the half and then quickly capitalized on a foul in the box. She connected on a penalty kick (40:14) in the waning minutes of the first half. That was the only goal during the first half that saw both teams unable to get clean shots on net due to solid defense.
The second half was more of the same on the defensive end, with Dubuque unable to net anything on Carroll until a late foul in the box gave Dubuque a penalty kick opportunity of their own. Dubuque's Alyssa Tranchita converted her penalty kick (84:00) with just a few minutes left in the game to tie it up.
After a little more back and forth on the defensive end, the game ultimately ended in the 1-1 draw.
Ava Lewandowski led the way for Carroll with 8 saves in her debut.
Carroll will look to continue to build on this performance this Saturday when they are back home at Schneider Stadium at 7 p.m. to face Edgewood College in another non-conference match up.
