WAUKESHA, Wis. – The Carroll Pioneers come in clutch in third sets to knock off North Park in a late-night CCIW duel.
In doubles, Pios would sweep the Vikings to earn the doubles point.
Makayla Counsell and
Gracie Niebler got the winning started with a 7-5 victory at three doubles.
Mia Franke and
Aalaiya Jacklin similarly won 7-5 at two. Finally,
Natasa Pupovac and
Katherine Trifilio won 7-6 (7-2).
Heading into singles, the Pioneers had the1-0 lead.
Erin Horzewski wasted no time winning 6-1, 6-0 at six singles.
Makayla Counsell won 6-2, 6-4 at 4 singles. Pios now were up 3-1, and the last three matches were going into third sets.
Mia Franke, a freshman from Racine, took down Emilia Sand at three singles, 2-6, 6-2, 7-5. Finally,
Natasa Pupovac was victorious at one singles match, winning 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.
Carroll would win the match 5-2 and improve to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in the CCIW. The Vikings fall to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in the CCIW. The Pioneers are back in action on September 28, at home against Elmhurst.
