WAUKESHA, Wis - #20 Carroll got their revenge on Saturday afternoon, taking down #13 Illinois Wesleyan in convincing fashion behind a fast start that was led behind their defensive efforts, holding Illinois Wesleyan to 29% shooting and forcing 16 turnovers.
Carroll used a dominant defensive performance and a balanced offensive attack to pull away from Illinois Wesleyan, earning a 68–48 win on Saturday afternoon inside Van Male Fieldhouse. The Pioneers never trailed after the opening minutes and built their lead as large as 20 late in the fourth quarter.
Carroll's efficiency was the difference, shooting 48 percent from the floor and 41 percent from three while holding the Titans to just 29 percent overall and 2-of-12 from deep. The Pioneers also owned the paint, finishing with a 36–30 scoring advantage inside.
Emilie Wizner powered Carroll with a game-high 25 points on 10-of-19 shooting, including five made threes, while adding three rebounds and two assists. Natalie Gricius was nearly flawless, going 7-for-7 from the field for 15 points and nine rebounds. Julia Lokker reached double figures with 10 points and added five assists, and Ryann Wendt chipped in nine points.
Carroll opened the game with a 19–10 first-quarter lead and used a 19-10 third quarter to create separation after halftime. The Pioneers held IWU to just three made field goals in the third and forced 11 Titans turnovers after the break. Carroll's defense generated 20 points off IWU mistakes and allowed only two fast-break points.
The win pushes the Pioneers to 14–4 overall and 8–1 in CCIW play, now tied for 1st with Illinois Wesleyan. The Pioneers next matchup comes back at Van Male Fieldhouse this Wednesday as they host North Central with tip scheduled for 7pm.
