Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Carroll Erases 14-Point First Half Deficit to Beat Wheaton

WAUKESHA, Wis. – Carroll men's basketball delivered one of its most complete offensive performances of the season on Saturday afternoon, outlasting Wheaton 90–84 in a high-tempo CCIW matchup at Van Male Fieldhouse. The win pushes the Pioneers to 9–11 overall and 4–7 in league play.

The game opened at a blistering pace, with both teams trading runs throughout a back-and-forth first half that featured 18 lead changes and seven ties. Wheaton held a narrow 43–41 edge at the break, powered by early second-chance scoring and perimeter efficiency.

Carroll found its rhythm in the second half, shooting 53% from the field after halftime and controlling the paint with a 26–18 advantage inside. The Pioneers took the lead for good in the final minutes, fueled by strong defensive stands and timely scoring from multiple contributors as the game tightened in the closing possessions.

Michael McNabb powered the Carroll attack with 22 points, including a perfect 8-for-8 showing at the free throw line down the stretch. Lamar Smith added 19 points and was dynamic in the lane all afternoon, while Peyton McKenna provided a balanced performance with 15 points, three triples, and five rebounds.
Freshman big Dennis Estepp delivered a strong interior presence with 8 points, 4 rebounds, and a late go-ahead bucket.

Carroll finished shooting 50% from the floor and 84% at the line, while scoring a decisive 52 points in the paint and converting 13 fast-break points. Wheaton countered with 30-of-68 shooting (44%) and 21 second-chance points, but the Pioneers' late-game execution proved the difference.

With the win, Carroll secures a key CCIW victory and continues to build momentum heading into the final month of the regular season.

The Pioneers return to action next weekend on Saturday as they resume conference play against Augustana, looking to climb further in the league standings with tip scheduled for 4:15pm.
