WAUKESHA, Wis. – Carroll University women's volleyball continued its winning ways Friday night, defeating Augustana College in straight sets inside Van Male Fieldhouse. The victory marked Carroll's third consecutive win and improved the Pioneers to 14-10 overall and 3-1 in CCIW play.
Carroll established control early in the opening set. After falling behind 2-0, the Pioneers responded with an 8-1 run, highlighted by three consecutive service aces from Carly Hicklin. Augustana trimmed the deficit to 8-7, but Carroll answered with a 5-1 stretch to extend its advantage to 13-8. The Pioneers continued to build their lead, using a four-point run late in the frame to go ahead 23-14 before closing out the set 25-16.
The Pioneers carried their momentum into the second set, jumping out to a 6-2 advantage. Leading 8-6, Carroll took complete control with an eight-point run behind the serving of Lauryn Weber, extending its lead to 16-6. The Pioneers continued to dominate offensively, recording 14 kills on a .357 hitting percentage in the frame. Carroll maintained its double-digit advantage down the stretch, with Hicklin delivering the final kill to secure a commanding 25-12 victory.
Augustana attempted to battle back in the third set, erasing an early Carroll advantage to even the score at 6-6. The Pioneers responded with five consecutive points to regain control at 11-6 before extending their lead to 17-9. The Vikings cut the deficit to four at 18-14, but Carroll answered with another four-point run to build a 22-14 advantage. After Augustana fought off two match points, Audrey Rosenbaum delivered the final kill to secure the 25-18 victory and complete the sweep.
Carroll finished the night with 34 kills on a .240 hitting percentage while adding 29 assists, 11 service aces, 51 digs and six total blocks. The Pioneers held Augustana to a .093 hitting percentage, limiting the Vikings to just 27 kills across three sets.
Hicklin led the Pioneer offense with nine kills on a .241 hitting percentage while adding nine digs, three service aces and one solo block. Clara Justice followed with eight kills on a .286 hitting percentage, while Rosenbaum contributed six kills and three digs. Lexi Proctor recorded a double-double with 15 assists and 13 digs, adding four kills and one service ace. Samantha Miserendino anchored the defense with a team-high 14 digs and three service aces, while Payton Depies contributed 10 assists and two service aces. Miley Manternach added two solo blocks and one block assist.
The Pioneers return to action on Friday, October 23, when they host North Park University in a CCIW matchup inside Van Male Fieldhouse. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. Carroll will also celebrate Senior Day, recognizing its seniors before the match.
