WAUKESHA, Wis. – Carroll University used a balanced offensive attack and a strong second half to earn a 12–4 victory over Edgewood University in its women's lacrosse season opener Saturday afternoon.
The Pioneers scored three times in the opening quarter, including a pair of man-up goals, to take a 3–2 lead after 15 minutes. After Edgewood tied the game early in the second quarter, Carroll regained the advantage on a goal from Rebecca Hallman, assisted by Lauren Fricke, and carried a 4–3 lead into halftime.
Carroll extended its lead in the third quarter behind three goals, including two from Hallman, while holding Edgewood to a single score. The Pioneers broke the game open in the fourth period with five unanswered goals, turning a three-goal margin into a decisive win.
Elizabeth Wang led Carroll with three goals, scoring all three in the fourth quarter. Hallman added three goals and an assist, while Sierra Skack finished with two goals and two assists. Paige Helms scored twice, and Elaina Phaneuf and Lauren Fricke each added a goal.
Fricke also recorded three assists, and Hallman and Skack each finished with multiple points as Carroll totaled 12 goals from six different players.
Devon Duym earned the win in goal for the Pioneers, making six saves while helping limit Edgewood to 11 shots on goal. Carroll held advantages in shots (31–11) and clear efficiency (18-for-20).
Carroll will continue nonconference play next week as they return home to take on Marian on Wednesday at 4:30pm.
