GREEN LAKE, Wis. — The Carroll University men's golf team squared off with longtime rival St. Norbert College in the annual Hatchet Match, competing in match-play format Tuesday at Lawsonia Golf Course.
Carroll was led by a strong performance from Widar Burman Voss, who posted the low round of the day for the Pioneers with a 70. Paired with Fernando Cirajas, who carded an 80, the duo earned Carroll's lone match win, finishing up one against their St. Norbert opponents.
Several other Carroll pairings battled to tightly contested halved matches. Jonah Keck turned in a solid round of 73, while Noah Rhodes added an 83 as the pair halved their match. Tyler Hoffmann shot a 75, and Charlie Krall followed with a 79, also earning a halve in their matchup.
In other pairings, Mathias Werring and Sigge Lundin each posted rounds of 76, but fell 4&3 in their match. Ole Sonsteby recorded a 79, while Miguel Albero finished with an 84, with the pairing narrowly dropping their match down one. The final Carroll group featured Carter Morrison, who shot a 74, and Grant Naumann, who added a 77, as the duo battled throughout before falling 4&3.
Despite the overall result, Carroll showed depth and competitiveness across the lineup while gaining valuable match-play experience against a strong St. Norbert squad on one of Wisconsin's premier courses. The team will now turn its attention to the Legends Classic hosted by Bryant and Stratton College which will take place Thursday and Friday, with day one taking place at The Bull in Sheboygan Falls.
