Pioneers Battle Through Tough Doubleheader at Millikin

DECATUR, Ill. — The Carroll University softball team wrapped up their weekend roadtrip Sunday afternoon, dropping both games to Millikin on Sunday.

Game 1 – Millikin 8, Carroll 0 (5 innings)

Millikin capitalized early and often in the opener, scoring in four of the five innings to secure an 8–0 win in five innings.

Carroll finished with five hits in the contest, led by Abigail Curtis, who went 2-for-3 at the top of the lineup. Valerie Osthoff doubled, while Jennavieve Andler and Brenna Borkowski each added singles. The Pioneers put runners on base in multiple innings but were unable to string together timely hits.

In the circle, Madelyn Eckl took the loss after working 1.1 innings, allowing three earned runs. Mya Schneider provided length out of the bullpen, pitching three innings and striking out two, while Makayla Wall recorded the final out.

Game 2 – Millikin 9, Carroll 1 (6 innings)

The second game saw Millikin score in each of the first four innings before Carroll broke through in the fifth. The Big Blue ultimately pulled away for a 9–1 victory.

Carroll recorded six hits in game two, with Kali Stanchina leading the offense by going 2-for-2 and driving in the Pioneers' lone run with an RBI single in the fifth inning that scored Adeline Bretz. Brenna Borkowski doubled and walked, while Grace O'Connor, Valerie Osthoff, and Gianna Buske also recorded hits.

In the pitching circle, Makayla Wall started and worked 3.2 innings, allowing seven runs, only three of which were earned. Makayla Grantz pitched the final two innings, allowing two runs and striking out one.

The Pioneers will wrap up their regular season at home on Thursday as they host Elmhurst for a doubleheader starting at 2pm.
