Carroll Softball Splits Home Opener Doubleheader with Concordia

WAUKESHA, Wis. — Carroll University softball split its doubleheader with Concordia Wisconsin on Sunday afternoon at Carroll Softball Stadium, opening the day with a 3-0 shutout victory before falling 9-1 in the second game.

Game 1 – Carroll 3, Concordia Wisconsin 0
Carroll set the tone early in the opener, scoring all three runs in the bottom of the first inning and backing it up with a dominant pitching performance to secure the shutout.

After Abigail Curtis led off the frame with a single and Kali Stanchina was hit by a pitch, Jenna Andler delivered the decisive swing, ripping a two-run double to center field to put the Pioneers on the board. Madison Hoagland followed with a groundout that plated Andler to make it 3-0.

That was all the run support Makayla Wall needed, as she was in complete control in the circle. Wall tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing just two hits while striking out five Concordia batters to improve to 6-1 on the season.

Carroll finished the game with eight hits, led by Makayla Grantz, who went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate. Curtis and Andler each recorded multi-hit games, with Andler driving in two of the Pioneers' three runs.

Game 2 – Concordia Wisconsin 9, Carroll 1
Concordia Wisconsin jumped out to an early lead in the nightcap, scoring three runs in the first inning and adding runs in four different frames to take the series finale.

Carroll's lone run came in the bottom of the first inning when Curtis crossed the plate on a wild pitch, briefly cutting the deficit to 3-1. However, Concordia responded with a pair of multi-run innings, including a three-run fourth and a two-run fifth, to pull away.

Addison Leck recorded a hit for the Pioneers, while Curtis also reached base and scored Carroll's only run of the game. Mya Schneider and Madelyn Eckl combined in the circle for Carroll, with Eckl providing 1.1 innings of relief.

Carroll moves forward after the split into conference play as the open up this Wednesday as they travel to Wheaton to play a doubleheader starting at 2pm
