Green Bay, Wis. – Behind another standout performance from freshman Allena O'Connell, the Carroll University women's cross country team placed second at the Green Knight Open Friday evening at Shorewood Golf Course.
O'Connell continued her remarkable start to her collegiate career by claiming the individual title in the 6K race, crossing the finish line in 23:31.2. The freshman finished nearly a minute ahead of the runner-up and became Carroll's first race winner of the 2026 season.
The Pioneers placed five runners inside the top 25 to secure the team runner-up finish. Fellow freshman Norah Yang was Carroll's second finisher, taking 11th overall with a time of 26:08.7. Kyla Laabs followed closely in 13th place after posting a 26:31.2, while Paola Orozco added a 17th-place finish in 27:09.1.
Senior Sarah Tinder rounded out Carroll's scoring five, placing 19th with a time of 27:43.7. Abby Burie narrowly missed the scoring lineup and finished 21st in 27:56.5, helping provide valuable depth for the Pioneers.

Friday marked the latest strong outing for O'Connell, who continues to build momentum during an impressive freshman campaign. Her victory highlighted a balanced Carroll performance that featured four runners among the top 20 finishers and helped the Pioneers secure second place in the team standings against a competitive field.
Carroll will return to action on October 10 at the Gene Davis Invite hosted by Lawrence University in Appleton, WI.
