Pioneers Battle Spartans to Scoreless Road Draw

DUBUQUE, Iowa. – Behind a stellar performance from goalkeeper Ava Lewandowski, the Carroll University women's soccer team battled to a scoreless draw against the University of Dubuque on Friday evening at Oyen Field. The Pioneers moved to 0-1-1 on the season after earning their first result of 2026.

The Spartans held a slight edge in play throughout the contest, outshooting Carroll 15-12 and putting eight shots on goal, but Lewandowski was up to the challenge all night. The sophomore goalkeeper recorded eight saves, including a pair of crucial penalty-kick stops in the second half to preserve the shutout.

After a scoreless opening half, both teams continued to search for a breakthrough following intermission. Carroll generated several quality chances, including shots on goal from Michaela Williamson, Addie Decker, Claudia Cramer, and Bella Logue, but University of Dubuque goalkeeper Samantha Jurgens matched Lewandowski with five saves of her own.

The defining sequence came in the 74th minute when a foul in the box awarded the Spartans a penalty kick. Lewandowski denied Ava Hortillosa's attempt to keep the match scoreless. Dubuque received a second penalty opportunity in the final minute, and once again Lewandowski came through with the save, preserving the draw in dramatic fashion.

Williamson led Carroll with two shots, while Logue, Cramer, Natalie Namio, and Decker each registered a shot on frame. The Pioneers also earned seven corner kicks in the match.

Carroll returns to action on Sunday as the Pioneers return home to host MSOE in another nonconference matchup at noon.
