JANESVILLE, Wis. – The Carroll University men's golf team delivered one of the strongest performances in program history this weekend, carding a school-record 36-hole team score of 586 to finish third out of 20 teams in a highly competitive field. The Pioneers were led by Grant Naumann, who matched the program's 18-hole scoring record with a first-round 68 (-3) and finished tied for sixth individually.
Naumann set the tone for Carroll from the opening tee shot, firing a bogey-free 68 in Saturday's first round to tie the lowest 18-hole score in program history. The standout round featured a front-nine 33 and back-nine 35, putting him among the tournament leaders heading into round two. He followed with a 74 on Sunday to finish with an even-par 142 over 36 holes, earning a tie for sixth place.
Behind Naumann's historic performance, the Pioneers put together one of the deepest team showings in recent memory. Preston Powell opened with a 74 before improving by two strokes in the second round, posting a 72 to finish at 146 (+4) and tie for 17th individually. Carter Morrison also made a significant leap up the leaderboard on day two, bouncing back from a 77 in round one with an even-par 72 in round two to finish tied for 33rd at 149 (+7).
Tyler Hoffmann matched Morrison's overall score of 149, carding rounds of 74 and 75 to tie for 33rd place. Noah Rhodes rounded out the team scoring effort with rounds of 76 and 81 for a 157 (+15).
Competing as individuals, Charlie Wu recorded a pair of steady rounds, shooting 74 and 77 to finish at 151 (+9) and tie for 44th place. Jonah Keck improved five strokes from his opening round, following an 82 with a 77 on day two to finish at 159 (+17).
Carroll's consistency throughout the lineup proved to be the difference. The Pioneers placed four golfers inside the top 33 and recorded three rounds of 74 or better during the tournament. Naumann's record-tying 68 highlighted a weekend in which Carroll repeatedly challenged the top of the leaderboard against a large and talented field.
The third-place finish marks an impressive early-season statement for the Pioneers, whose 586 team total established a new program benchmark for a 36-hole event. With Naumann matching the school record and multiple golfers producing career-caliber rounds, Carroll showcased both its top-end talent and overall depth heading into the heart of the fall schedule.
The Pioneers will look to carry that momentum into their next competition at the Judson Invite in West Dundee, IL on September 11, as they continue what is shaping up to be a promising 2026 campaign.
