Max Johansen

Max Johansen was elevated to Associate Head Coach for the Pioneers following the 2025-26 season. Head Coach Taylor Jannsen had to this to say about Johansen being named the Associate Head Coach, "Max is involved in every area of our program. He has a huge role in building and designing our defensive scheme each season, advanced scouting for opponents, and plays a lead role with many of our recruits. Max is tremendous with our players on the court and he's even better in his development of relationships with them off the court. We are very fortunate to have Max so heavily involved in our program and it was a natural next step to name him the Associate Head Coach of our program."

Johansen has now completed three seasons on staff at Carroll. In his first season with the Pioneers in 2023-24, Carroll won 14 games, which marked the highest win total the program had seen since rejoining the highly competitive CCIW conference in 2016. The team has clinched two CCIW post-season berths and registered four CCIW all-conference players since Johansen has been involved in the program.

Johansen came to Carroll after a three-year stint at Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee. While at Cardinal Stritch, Johansen was the lead assistant with duties that included recruitment, practice planning, opponent scouting, and travel planning for road games. Prior to his time at Cardinal Stritch, Johansen served as a graduate assistant coach during the 2018-19 season at the University of Washington, while also gaining experience as an AAU coach ranging from U11-U17. Johansen broke into the coaching ranks as a student manager at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, which entailed numerous responsibilities such as travel planning, camp organization, and practice statistics.

A native of Appleton, Wis., Johansen attended Appleton North High School. He went on to earn his bachelor's degree in History and Human Development and Family Studies from UW-Madison in 2018. He then went on to earn his Master's in Education and Intercollegiate Athletic Leadership from the University of Washington in 2019.
