Pios Drop Season Opener in 13 Innings

3/17/2014 9:38:00 PM

Box Score TUCSON, Ariz. - Carroll University (0-1) fell in 13 innings to Augsburg by the final score of 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.

Junior pitcher Tyler Robers went 8 2/3 strong innings in his first start. Robers did not allow an earned run while walking one and striking out 10.

Trailing 1-0 with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, Alex Olson drew a walk. Al Arden ran for Olson and scored from first on a double by Ben Turner to the left field corner to knot the game at one and force extra innings.

Head Coach Stein Rear was pleased with the opening day effort. "We got a tremendous outing on the mound from Robers and the bullpen. As a staff they pounded the strike zone and worked very aggressively. Defensively we made plays and had some reserve players step in late in the game defensively and performed very well. For our first game of the season we did a great job against a quality opponent."

The Pioneers return to action on Monday as they face the Illinois Institute of Technology in a 10am local time double-header.
