Box Score TUCSON, Ariz. - Carroll University (2-3) won a thiller in 12 innings as they defeated Augsburg College 7-4 on Thursday afternoon.

After building a two run lead early, Carroll found themselves trailing 4-3 with two outs and the bases empty in the top of the ninth inning. Freshman Alex Nockerts was inserted to pinch-hit and promptly drove the first pitch of the at bat well over the left field fence to send the game to extra innings.

Nockerts was again the spark plug as he led off the 12th with a single and scored the go-ahead run on a fielders choice as the Pioneers would score three runs in the frame and hold for the win.

Sophomore Dan Arden (1-0) pitched the 11th and 12th to earn the win, striking out three. Freshman Jacob Sweet pitched the ninth to lock down his first career save.

Along with Nockerts, Eric Keenan paced the Pio offense, finishing 2x4 with a run scored and an RBI.

Skipper Stein Rear was pleased with his young ball club, "We were able to overcome some defensive mistakes that cost us the lead in the eighth inning. Nockerts' put a great swing on the ball and didn't miss his pitch. Our pitching rebounded from some difficult outings and was stellar today. It was a great win for these young men, they battled today and I very excited for them."

The Pios return to action tomorrow as they face Macalester College at 10am local time and Carleton College at 2pm.
