Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TUCSON, Ariz. - Carroll University (2-5) held leads in both of its games on Friday but couldn't hold them as they fell to Macalester College 7-5 and Carleton College 9-4.

In game one versus Macalester, the Pios battled back from an early 3-0 deficit to lead 5-3 going into the seventh inning, but gave up three late runs to drop the opener. Chris James turned in a solid start going six inning and striking out 5 without issuing a walk.

Alex Elenteny, Ben Turner and Clayton Schmitt all collected a pair of hits to lead the offense.

In the afternoon game Carroll held an early 2-1 lead but a lead-off walk followed by a hit batter lead to a five run fifth inning for Carleton that the Pioneers couldn't overcome.

Offensively Dylan Grove was 3x4 and Alex Olson was 2x3 to lead Carroll.

Coach Rear on his team's effort, "We struggled to put much of anything together offensively today and couldn't close the deal in both games. We are so close, but need to give a more consistant effort every inning. It's tough to be close and not able to finish, but we continue to move forward and get better every day."

The Pioneers will wrap up their Arizona trip on Saturday as they face Carleton at 9am.
