(Waukesha, Wis.) – Kyle Keranen scored a team-high 25 points and Marcus Johnson added 19 points to lead the Carroll University men's basketball team to an 83-78 overtime victory over Loras College.
The victory improves the Pioneers to 7-0 on the season, making it the program's best start to a season in the Midwest Conference era. Carroll's first season in the MWC was 1992-1993.
Loras led by one point at the break after a back and forth opening 20 minutes. It was much of the same in the opening 15 minutes of the second half until the Duhawks seemed to grab control of the game, leading by seven points (62-55) with 5:44 to play.
A 9-2 Carroll run over the next three minutes evened the score at 64-64 at the 2:25 mark. The Pioneers led 68-66 with just under a minute on the clock but Loras hit the tying basket to force overtime with 22 seconds remaining.
In overtime, the visitors again looked like they were going to hand Carroll its first defeat, leading 77-73 at 1:15. But, the feisty Pioneers closed out the extra period on a 10-1 run.
Bryan Nagy added 10 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and five steals for Carroll while Tanner Zaeske chipped in with 14 points.
The Pioneers return to action Dec. 29-30 when they take on Edgewood College and UW-Oshkosh in Wisconsin Dells, Wis.
