Pios Fall in Extra Innings to MSOE

4/2/2015 8:28:00 PM

Box Score FRANKLIN, Wis. - Carroll University dropped a tough 6-3 loss in what was originally scheduled as their home opener forced to be moved due to wet playing conditions at Frame Park.

Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh centerfielder Clayton Schmitt drove the ball over the leftfield fence to tie the game 3-3.  The Pioneers had the winning run in scoring position in the bottom of the ninth with two outs but a long fly ball to right field was tracked down to  send the game to extra innings.

In the top of the tenth inning MSOE would plate three runs after a misplayed flyball that put the Pioneers in a 6-3 hole going into the bottom half of the inning. Carroll managed to put a couple of runners on base and bring the tying run to the plate, but couldn't get the key hit as they dropped to 6-11 on the year.

Carroll will try to right the ship as they return to action next week Tuesday as they host Wisconsin Lutheran College at 4pm.
