Box Score FRANKLIN, Wis. - Carroll University (7-12) ended a seven game losing streak with a 2-0 victory over UW-Superior on Wednesday afternoon in a game moved to The Rock Sports Complex.
Alex Olson would provide all the needed offense in the bottom of the first inning as he drove a pitch deep over the center field fence to give the Pioneers the early 1-0 lead.
Carroll would extend their lead in the bottom of the fourth as Arron Buck would walk to lead-off the inning and advance to second on a sacrifice bunt. Buck would score on a deep double to center field off the bat of Clayton Schmitt to put the Pios up 2-0.
Brian Jones (2-0) was masterful on the mound, working six innings and allowing only two hits while striking out three to earn the win for the Pioneers. Aaron Roth would work the final three scoreless innings to pick up the save.
Coach Rear was pleased with his team's final tune-up before entering Midwest Conference play, "Jones and Roth set the tone on the mound making quality pitches and working from ahead in the count., Defensively, we made all the plays and put together nine full innings of quality defensive effort."
Carroll will start MWC play as they host Beloit College on Saturday at Frame Park, first pitch of the double-header scheduled for 1pm.
