(Jacksonville, Ill.) – The Carroll University men's basketball team jumped out to a big lead then cruised to 69-61 victory over Illinois College to remain perfect in the Midwest Conference at 5-0.
The Pioneers held a 32-18 lead at halftime and extended to as much as a 17 point lead early in the second half. The Blueboys cut the deficit to four points with just over four minutes to play but CU was able to hit timely baskets down the stretch the thwart IC's comeback bid.
Four of five starters reached double figures in scoring for Carroll, led by 19 points from Tanner Zaeske. Bryan Nagy added 15 points, eight rebounds and five assists while Marcus Johnson added a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Kyle Keranen chipped in with 11 points.
Carroll's defense stifle Illinois College in the opening 20 minutes, limiting the Blueboys to 28% percent shooting. The Pioneers also dominated the hosts on the glass, outrebounding IC 40-25.
