(Waukesha, Wis.) – The Carroll University softball team lost a Midwest Conference doubleheader against Illinois College in Waukesha.
The Lady Blues edged the Pioneers 1-0 in the opener then knocked off CU 9-4 in game two.
Game one was a pitcher's duel that saw each team muster just six hits each. Illinois College scored the games only run in the first inning.
Micah Clutter was strong at the plate for the Pioneers, going 3-for-3. Shelby Sommer picked up the hard-luck loss on the mound as she gave up just the one earned run while striking out four batters.
IC's bats came alive in game two as they registered 16 hits. The Lady Blues jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and held a 9-1 advantage heading into the bottom of the sixth inning.
Carroll put together a rally in the sixth and cut IC's lead to 9-4 but could get no closer.
Veronica Rodriguez, Kara McCaughrean, Annika Graves and Hannah Miller each drove in a run for Carroll.
