(De Pere, Wis.) – The Carroll University softball team snapped a four-game skid with a crucial Midwest Conference doubleheader sweep over St. Norbert College.
The Pioneers powered their way to an 11-4 victory over the Green Knights in game one then blasted the home team 11-0 in five innings in the nightcap.
Carroll received another strong outing on the mound from Shelby Sommer and took advantage of five Green Knight errors. Sommer pitched five innings and gave up just four hits and one run before giving way to Caitlyn Adams and Sarah Hansen.
Michah Clutter led the Pioneers offensively by driving in three runs on 2-for-5 hitting. Kelly Sykes also drove in two runs while Sommer was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI.
Game two ended after five innings due to the mercy rule. Carroll scored two runs in the second inning then plated eight runs an inning later to blow the game open.
Hannah Miller pitched five innings of shutout ball while giving up just four hits.
Carroll's bats remained hot in game two, as the team belted five extra-base hits, including a triple from Annika Graves and homeruns from Sykes and Kelly Strasser.
Sykes went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored while Strasser was 3-for-4 with two runs driven in. Rosie Craine was perfect 3-for-3 with three RBIs.
