(Dubuque, Iowa) – The Carroll University women's lacrosse team came up a little short in its comeback bid at Loras College. The Duhawks hung on for an 11-10 victory over the Pioneers.
Carroll scored the game's opening goal then led 3-2 at 14:10 of the first half.
The home side scored five unanswered goals to take a 7-3 lead into the closing seconds of the first half before Kailey Leahy pulled one back for CU just before the break to make it a 7-4 advantage for Loras at halftime.
Ariannah Ritter reduced the deficit to 7-5 with a goal less than a minute into the second half but the Duhawks went on a three-goal scoring run over the next six minutes to lead 10-5 at 23:37.
Michael Hodge's squad turned up the heat in the final 20 minutes and scored five the game's final six goals to pull to within 11-10 with 17-seconds to play. Loras was able to hold on for the win.
Leahy finished with a team-high five goals while Ritter and Betty Koenig added two goals each. Donna January also added a tally for CU.
