(Mt. Vernon, Iowa) – The Carroll University softball team split a Midwest Conference doubleheader at Cornell College. The hosts won game one by a score of 2-0 but the Pioneers rallied to claim the nightcap, 6-0.
Game one was a pitcher's duel and featured just 10 hits, combined. Carroll had six hits while the Rams mustered just four, but Cornell was able to plate the game's only runs in the sixth inning.
Hannah Miller took the loss on the mound but was strong in six innings. She gave up four hits, two earned runs and struck out three batters.
Kelly Strasser went 2-for-3 at the plate to CU.
In game two, it was Shelby Sommer who stifled CC's bats. She went the distance and gave up just three hits in the shutout victory.
Veronica Rodriquez went 3-for-3 at the plate with two runs driven in. Rosie Crane also recorded two RBI's.
Carroll plated three runs in the top of the fourth inning and added three more in the seventh to secure the win.
