5/1/2016 8:05:00 PM

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 DE PERE, Wis. - Carroll University (13-16, 3-9 MWC) won game one 10-8 on a late homerun by Dylan Grove.  Grove would set the all time Carroll University hits record on a hard hit ground ball to the left side of the infield in the fourth inning.

In the opener Carroll would have all the answers.  St. Norbert would take the lead 2-0 in the top of the fourth, Carroll would answer in the bottom of the fourth.   The Pios would score three runs as Ryan Hetherington and Hunter Frey would record RBI base hits to retake the lead 3-2.

Four hits and three hit batters would lead to a huge five run fifth inning for St. Norbert as they retook the lead 7-3.  Carroll would again answer in the bottom of the inning.  Grove would double in a run, which ties him for the most doubles in Carroll history.  Mitch Carlson and Hetherington would each drive in a run as Carroll would cut the Norbert lead to 7-6.

St. Norbert would add an insurance run in the top of the eighth inning before Carroll would provide their final answer.  Frey and Caleb Emmer would lead off the eighth inning with back-to-back singles before Brady Durni would get hit to load the bases.  Joe Huss sent a deep fly ball that the left fielder caught with his back against the outfield wall, allowing Frey to tag and score to cut the lead to 8-7.  Following a fielders choice ground out for the first out of the inning, Grove would step to the plate.  Grove would drive the first pitch he saw over the left field fence to give the Pios the 10-8 lead.

Matt Risch would work a clean ninth inning on the mound to earn his second save of the season.

Game two the Pios would be plagued by walks and pitchers getting behind in the count as St. Norbert would take advantage as they cruised to the 17-1 victory.

The Pioneers will host a pair of non-conference games this week as UW-Oshkosh (5pm Wednesday) and Elmhurst (3:30pm Thursday) will visit Frame Park.
