Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Growth process continues for Pioneers

Wald scores game-high 24 points in CCIW loss to Millikin

DECATUR, Ill. - The rebuilding process continued as the Carroll University women's basketball team lost to Millikin University 91-59 in a College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin game at the Griswold Center on Saturday.
It was the sixth consecutive loss for Carroll, which dropped to 1-9 in the conference standings and 1-17 overall.
The young, scrappy Pioneers entered the contest with hopes of sweeping the regular-season series, following a dramatic 75-73 home-court victory over Millikin on Jan. 7.
Those hopes were short lived as Carroll was outscored 50-32 in the opening half, including a decisive 23-16 margin in the second quarter.
Junior point guard Brittney Wald (Antigo, Wis.) had a game-high 24 points, nine rebounds and an assist to lead the short-handed Pioneers, who converted five 3-point baskets, 14 of 18 free throws and shot 36.4 percent from field-goal range. Sophomore guard Sara Hartl (Racine, Wis.) contributed 10 points.
Junior forward Morgan Lund (Mondovi, Wis.) chipped in seven points, six rebounds and two assists for Carroll, which had seven active players on the roster. Sophomore guard Meredith Polzin (Pewaukee, Wis.) and freshman guard/forward Hannah Kloehn (Marshfield, Wis.) each added six points for the Pioneers, who committed a costly 20 turnovers.
Junior guard Devin Curry had a team-high 22 points, five rebounds, five steals and four assists for Millikin, which improved to 3-7 in conference and 9-10 overall. Junior guard/forward Emily Schultz had 19 points, 10 rebounds and three assists for the Big Blue, who made nine 3-pointers, 20 of 25 free throws and shot 44.3 percent from the field.
Millikin outrebounded the Pioneers 51-25, maintaining a key 20-5 advantage on the offensive glass.
