MONMOUTH, Ill. - The Carroll University men's lacrosse team lost to Monmouth College 9-5 in a nonconference game at Zorn Stadium on Saturday.
Caroll led 3-2 with 6:16 remaining in the second quarter but yielded two, momentum-shifting goals over the course of the final three minutes.
Freshman attackman/midfielder Tatum Priewe had three goals for Monmouth, which was competing in its season opener and added two third-quarter goals to help ensure a come-from-behind victory.
Freshman attackman Jeff Schultz (Franklin, Wis.) contributed two goals and an assist for Carroll, which dropped to 1-1 overall.
Junior midfielder Drake Nikolai (South Milwaukee, Wis.), sophomore attackman Edward Weizenicker (New Berlin, Wis.) and freshman midfielder Dominic Sabbarese (Verona, Wis.) each had one goal for Carroll, which scored twice in the second and fourth quarters. Sophomore attackman Paul Kerchberger (Deer Park, Ill.) and freshman midfielder Christopher Bechtel (Sammamish, Wash.) each added an assist.
Sophomore goalkeeper John Annand (South Orange, N.J.) registered nine saves in playing the entire 60 minutes for the Pioneers, who were outshot 40-26.
Freshman attackman Croy Seagren and freshman midfielder Chase Cranford each had two goals for Monmouth. Freshman goalkeer Jason Kunath had eight saves to preserve a victory for the Fighting Scots.
