CINCINNATI, Ohio - Freshman attackman Jeff Schultz (Franklin, Wis.) scored the winning unassisted goal with 1 minute, 31 seconds remaining in regulation as the Carroll University men's lacrosse team defeated College of Mount St. Joseph 1-0 during the second stop of its three-game spring break trip Wednesday afternoon.
Trailing 9-8 in the fourth quarter, Carroll responded to the challenge by scoring two unanswered goals over the course of the final eight minutes.
Schultz and freshman midfielder Dannon Ivey (Grass Valley, Calif.) each contributed a game-high four goals for the Pioneers, who earned their first road victory of the season to improve to 3-4 overall.
Ivey tied the physical, spirited contest on an unassisted goal with 7:05 left for Carroll, which outshot the Lions 40-36 - maintaining a key 24-21 shot-on-goal advantage.
Freshman midfielder Dom Sabbarese (Verona, Wis.) followed with two goals and two assists. Sophomore attackman Paul Kerchberger (Deer Park, Ill.) had two assists with freshman midfielder Christopher Bechtel adding one.
Sophomore goalkeeper John Annand (South Orange, N.J.) registered 12 saves to help preserve a victory for the Pioneers.
Senior midfielder/attackman Connor McPhail and sophomore defenseman Tyler Lindholz each scored three goals for Mount St. Joseph, which dropped to 0-5 overall.
