BETHANY, W.Va. - Junior midfielder Drake Nikolai (South Milwaukee, Wis.) scored two goals as the Carroll University men's lacrosse team lost to Bethany College 8-5 to cap its three-game spring break trip at Bison Stadium on Thursday afternoon.
The Pioneers, who completed their trip with a 1-2 record, dropped to 3-5 overall.
Bethany, which improved to 3-2 overall, outscored the Pioneers 5-1 in the momentum-shifting first half - including three unanswered goals in the opening quarter.
Freshman midfielder Dom Sabbarese (Verona, Wis.), freshman attackman Jeff Schultz (Franklin, Wis.) and freshman midfielder Dannon Ivey (Grass Valley, Calif.) each followed with one goal for Carroll. Sophomore attackman Paul Kerchberger (Deer Park, Ill.) had two assists with freshman midfielder Christopher Bechtel (Sammamish, Wash.) adding one.
Sophomore goalkeeper Dakota Hwilka (Waukesha, Wis.) registered 11 saves in playing the entire 60 minutes.
Senior midfielder Tyler Peck had a hat trick for Bethany, which maintained a 19-17 shot-on-goal advantage.
