KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Carroll University softball team lost to William Paterson University 6-0 to cap its fourth day of the Rebel Spring Games at the Osceola Softball Complex on Wednesday afternoon.
It was the second shutout loss of the day and third of the season for Carroll, which dropped to 3-5 on its spring break trip and 6-6 overall.
William Paterson, which improved to 4-3 overall, scored five unanswered runs as the result of four hits and a costly error in the decisive bottom of the second inning.
Senior right-hander Gabrielle Castelli pitched a three-hitter with 10 strikeouts and no walks to earn a complete-game victory.
Freshman center fielder Rosalie Jrolf (Dousman, Wis.) went 2-for-3 for Carroll, which stranded five baserunners in the contest. Senior designated hitter Hannah Miller (Chicago, Ill.) had the other hit for the Pioneers.
Freshman right-hander Amanda Osterhus (Munster, Ind.) allowed three earned runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and two walks through six innings in taking the loss.
