Pioneers lose heartbreaker

KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Carroll University softball team suffered a heart-breaking 1-0 loss to College of St. Scholastica to open its fourth day of the Rebel Spring Games at the Osceola Softball Complex on Wednesday morning.
It was the second one-run loss of the season for Carroll, which dropped to 3-4 on its spring break trip and 6-5 overall.
As the game remained scoreless in the top of the seventh inning with runners on second and third, St. Scholastica freshman second baseman Dakota Underwood drove in the winning run on a clutch, pressure-packed one-out double to center field.
Senior right-hander Chrisi Mizera fired a two-hitter with eight strikeouts and no walks to earn a complete-game victory for the Saints, who improved to 3-6 overall.
Freshman designated player Haylee Arroyo (Mayville, Wis.) and freshman third baseman Emily Herberg (Chicago, Ill.) each had a hit for Carroll, which didn't commit an error in the contest.
The Pioneers attempted to rally in the bottom of the seventh following a lead-off single by Arroyo but fell victim to a fly out and game-ending double play.
Freshman right-hander Lexy Kemnitzer (McFarland, Wis.) scattered seven hits in taking a complete-game loss.
