Pioneers lose close battle on the road

January, Ritter each contribute two goals versus Elmhurst

ELMHURST, Ill. - Graduate attacker Donna January (Andower, Minn.) contributed two goals and an assist but the Carroll University women's lacrosse team lost to Elmhurst College 8-7 in a College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin game at Langhorst Field on Wednesday night.
The Pioneers, who dropped to 0-4 in the conference standings and 2-13 overall, led 6-4 at the 28:34 mark of the second half but surrendered four unanswered goals over a key six-minute span.
Sophomore midfielder Ariannah Ritter (Sun Prairie, Wis.) also had two goals for Carroll, which was outshot 27-19 - including a critical 8-6 shot-on-goal margin in the second half.
Senior midfielder Amanda Gibble (South Elgin, Ill.), sophomore midfielder Katie Majewski (Mundelein, Ill.) and freshman defender Shay Fulton (Delafield, Wis.) each collected one goal.
Freshman attacker Amanda Ferr (Franklin, Wis.) added an assist for the Pioneers, who equaled their season high for goals in a conference game.
Fulton's unassisted goal with 15:19 remaining in regulation trimmed the deficit to a one-point margin but Carroll struggled to complete a comeback.
The Pioneers attempted five shots on goal over the course of the final 15 minutes and couldn't convert on several golden opportunities down the stretch - highlighted by a potential game-tying free-position shot by Ritter with 50 seconds remaining.
Sophomore goalkeeper Shelby Schoob (Sun Prairie, Wis.) had seven saves.
Senior defender/midfielder Krystyna Kotlinski and junior forward Grace Knoebel each registered a hat trick for Elmhurst, which won its first conference game to improve to 1-2 in the league and 2-11 overall.
