Inspired comeback falls short in loss

Mueller finishes with team-high 13 kills in four-set road loss to Edgewood

MADISON, Wis. - Junior outside hitter Kylie Mueller (Fox Lake, Ill.) contributed a team-high 13 kills but it wasn't enough as the Carroll University women's volleyball team lost to Edgewood College 25-16, 25-16, 23-25, 32-30 in a nonconference dual meet at the Todd Wehr Edgedome on Thursday night.
It was the third four-set loss of the season for Carroll, which has lost four of its last five duals and dropped to 15-8 overall following the 1 hour, 50-minute battle.
Senior middle blocker Karley Wolf (Roselle, Ill.) followed with eight kills, six digs and two blocks for the Pioneers, who generated 11 kills with a .108 hitting percentage to capture their lone victory in the momentum-shifting third set - capped by an explosive spike by Mueller.
Tied 30-30 in the energized, marathon final set, the Pioneers fought hard to maintain the momentum but fell victim to an ace and match-ending attack error.
Sophomore middle blocker Rachel Noonan (Crystal Lake, Ill.) collected seven kills and five blocks, junior middle blocker Erika Dunnam (Shawano, Wis.) had six kills and four blocks, senior defensive specialist Amanda Hahn (Itasca, Ill.) had 18 digs and two service aces and junior setter Jennilyn Joy Cave (Bolingbrook, Ill.) chipped in with 15 assists. Senior defensive specialist Trystam Carr (Charlottesville, Va.) had 10 digs with junior setter Emma Przeslicke (Evergreen Park, Ill.) adding 24 assists and nine digs.
Senior middle hitter Cole Jordee had 13 kills and four blocks for Edgewood, which improved to 9-14 overall. Sophomore outside hitter Mackenzie Doherty and freshman outside hitter Sarah Pfeifer each added nine kills for the Eagles, who finished with 14 aces.
