Pios lose nail-biter versus UW-La Crosse

Tyler Ingebrigtsen scores game-high 18 points to lead Carroll

WAUKESHA, Wis. - Senior forward Tyler Ingebrigtsen (Elk Grove, Ill.) contributed a game-high 18 points, five rebounds, two blocked shots an assist and a steal as the Carroll University men's basketball team lost to the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse 58-54 in a hard-fought, physical nonconference game at Van Male Field House on Saturday afternoon.
The frustrating final outcome snapped a string of back-to-back victories for Carroll, which dropped to 4-7 overall following the inspired, character-building Community Day performance.
The Pioneers led 27-26 at the intermission and led by as many as eight points twice in the momentum-shifting second half.
Tied 45-45 in the second half, UW-La Crosse responded with a decisive 13-9 run over the course of the final seven minutes.
Sophomore guard Ryan Clarey (Pewaukee, Wis.), who finished with seven points, made a 3-point basket from the right baseline to trim the deficit to 57-54 with 1:27 remaining.
The Pioneers attempted a potential game-tying 3-pointer with 12 seconds left but couldn't take advantage of the opportunity.
Junior guard/forward Charlie Soule (Oregon, Wis.) followed with eight points, including 4 of 4 free throws, a team-best 11 rebounds, three steals and two assists for Carroll, which converted four baskets from 3-point range, 10 of 14 free throws and shot 35.7 percent from field-goal range. Senior guard Troy Howat (Plainfield, Ill.) had eight points with two 3-pointers, three rebounds and three assists. 
Senior forward Ben Meinholz finished with a team-high 13 points, nine rebounds and two assists to lead UW-La Crosse, which entered the contest hovering just out of the Top 25 and improved to 6-3 overall. Junior forward Terek Nesheim had 10 points for the Eagles, who made four 3-pointers, 8 of 13 free throws, scored 38 points in the paint and shot 42.6 percent from the field.
