Pioneers fall to No. 14 Illinois Wesleyan

Wald seeking to become 16th player in program history to reach 1,000-point career mark

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Senior guard Brittney Wald (Antigo, Wis.) had a team-high 18 points, eight rebounds, three steals and two assists but the Carroll University women's basketball team lost to No. 14-ranked Illinois Wesleyan University 87-58 in College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin game at the Shirk Center on Saturday night.
It was the second consecutive conference road loss for Carroll, which dropped to 4-9 in the league standings and 7-15 overall.
The Pioneers were outscored 46-29 in the first half, including what proved to be a decisive 24-14 margin in the second quarter.
Wald, the lone senior on the roster this season, currently has 947 career points and is seeking to become the 16th player in program history to reach the prestigious 1,000-point mark.
Freshman point guard Emily Majerus (Plymouth, Wis.) contributed 14 points with two 3-point baskets for Carroll, which made four 3-pointers, 12 of 23 free throws and shot 36.8 percent from field-goal range. Freshman small forward Delaney Sjong (Salem, Wis.) followed with eight points and five rebounds with junior forward Rachel Van Sluys (Sheboygan, Wis.) chipping in six points and six rebounds.
Freshman point guard Mallory Olszak (Crete, Ill.) added five points, five assists, two rebounds and two steals for the Pioneers, who committed 25 turnovers.
Junior guard Nina Anderson scored a game-high 22 points with five 3-pointers to lead Iliinois Wesleyan, which celebrated Senior Night by improving 12-1 in conference and 19-3 overall. Senior guard Molly McGraw had 17 points, four assists and two steals for the Titans, who made eight 3-pointers, 11 of 19 free throws and shot 46.6 percent from the field.
IWU rebounded the Pioneers 48-38, including a 17-12 advantage on the offensive glass.
