Pioneers lose heartbreaker on the road

Rossetti finishes with team-high 17 points in last-second loss to North Park

CHICAGO, Ill. - Freshman forward Katie Rossetti (Wauconda, Ill.) contributed a game-high 17 points, six rebounds, and two steals but the Carroll University women's basketball team lost a heartbreaker to North Park University 67-65 in a College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin game Wednesday night. 
Carroll, which entered the contest riding the momentum of back-to-back conference victories, dropped to 4-8  in the league standings and 7-14 overall.
Carroll led 65-63 with 1:09 remaining in the contest but the Vikings responded with four straight points to seal a dramatic, pressure-packed victory.
Lauryn Alba Garner made a game-winning hook shot with four seconds left for North Park.
Freshman point guard Emily Majerus (Plymouth, Wis.) followed with 12 points and senior guard Brittney Wald (Antigo, Wis.) had 10 points for Carroll, which made four 3-point baskets, 11 of 18 free throws and shot 50 percent from field-goal range. Junior forward Rachel Van Sluys (Sheboygan, Wis.) collected eight points with freshman point guard Mallory Olszak (Crete, Ill.) chipping in seven points, six rebounds, four assists and a steal.
Freshman guard Anna Menges  (Manitowoc, Wis.) added seven points, two assists and a steal for the Pioneers, who erased a 61-51 fourth-quarter deficit by responding with a 14-2 run to claim a late two-point lead.
Shaylee Sloan scored a team-high 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds for North Central, which snapped an eight-game losing streak to improve to 4-8 in conference and 9-12 overall. Garner had 13 points for the Vikings, who made two 3-pointers and 7 of 11 free throws.
