CLERMONT, Fla. - Sophomore right-hander
Amanda Osterhus (Munster, Ind.) pitched a one-hitter with 13 strikeouts and one walk as the Carroll University softball team defeated Lawrence University 4-0 in a nonconference game to cap its third day of the PFX Spring Games at Hancock Park on Monday afternoon.
It was the first shutout of the season and second victory of the tournament for Carroll, which improved to 2-4 on its Spring Break trip and 4-6 overall.
Osterhus had a no-hitter working through 4 2/3 innings before yielding a two-out single.
The Pioneers, who pounded out nine hits in the contest, scored four runs in the bottom of the second inning.
Junior right fielder
Annika Graves (Muskego, Wis.) ignited the scoring surge with an RBI single to left field for Carroll, which didn't commit an error. Sophomore first baseman
Elaine Anderson (Bristol, Wis.), who went 2-for-4, followed with a two-run double to center field.
Junior catcher
Veronica Rodriguez (South Bend, Ind.) added three hits, including an RBI single to left field, to cap the inning.
Senior third baseman Kori Looker had the lone hit for Lawrence, which dropped to 2-4 overall.
