CLERMONT, Fla. - The Carroll University softball team defeated Hamilton College 6-2 to begin its fourth day of the PFX Spring Games at Legends Way Stadium on Wednesday morning.
It was the second consecutive victory of the tournament for Carroll, which improved to 3-4 on its Spring Break trip and 5-6 overall.
The game remained scoreless after the first two innings but the Pioneers responded with two runs in the bottom of the third and added four runs in the decisive fourth.
Freshman third baseman
Allyssa Demma (Orland Park, Ill.) had a two-run single to right-center field in the third for Carroll, which collected seven hits.
Junior center fielder
Rosie Craine (Wheaton, Ill.) followed with a bases-loaded triple to ignite the big fourth inning scoring surge. Junior right fielder
Annika Graves (Muskego, Wis.) had an RBI groundout to round out the critical spree.
Graves and freshman shortstop
Jordan Wermund (Stevensville, Mich.) each had two hits for the Pioneers, who committed three errors.
Sophomore right-hander
Lexy Kemnitzer (McFarland, Wis.) was the winning pitcher, scattering six hits with five strikeouts and no walks to earn a complete-game victory.
Ashleah Yzaguirre went 2-for-3 and scored a run for Hamilton, which dropped to 5-6 overall.
