CLERMONT, Fla. - Sophomore right-hander
Lexy Kemnitzer (McFarland, Wis.) pitched a two-hitter as the Carroll University softball team defeated Oberlin College 8-0 in a five-inning nonconference game to begin its fifth day of the PFX Spring Games at Hancock Park on Thursday morning.
It was the second shutout of the season for Carroll, which won its fourth straight in the tournament to improve to 5-4 on its Spring Break trip and 7-6 overall.
Kemnitzer, who improved to 3-3 on the season, was a force throughout the contest and yielded only two singles.
Carroll, which amassed 10 hits, scored its first run in the bottom of the first on an RBI groundout by junior catcher
Veronica Rodriguez (South Bend, Ind.).
The Pioneers followed with four runs on six hits in the fourth, including RBI singles from junior first baseman
Kelsey Edwards (Rockford, Ill.) and junior center fielder
Rosie Craine (Wheaton, Ill.). Sophomore left fielder
Rosalie Jrolf (Dousman, Wis.) capped the key inning with a two-run double to center field.
Carroll added three runs in the fifth as freshman pinch-hitter
Theresa Favia (Bloomindale, Ill.) scored as the result of an error, freshman shortstop
Emily Green (Oswego, Ill.) scored on a wild pitch and junior right fielder
Annika Graves (Muskego, Wis.) - who went 3-for-4 - delivered an RBI single to left field.
Oberlin dropped to 3-8 overall.
