Kemnitzer pitches two-hitter in victory over Oberlin

CLERMONT, Fla. - Sophomore right-hander Lexy Kemnitzer (McFarland, Wis.) pitched a two-hitter as the Carroll University softball team defeated Oberlin College 8-0 in a five-inning nonconference game to begin its fifth day of the PFX Spring Games at Hancock Park on Thursday morning.
It was the second shutout of the season for Carroll, which won its fourth straight in the tournament to improve to 5-4 on its Spring Break trip and 7-6 overall.
Kemnitzer, who improved to 3-3 on the season, was a force throughout the contest and yielded only two singles.
Carroll, which amassed 10 hits, scored its first run in the bottom of the first on an RBI groundout by junior catcher Veronica Rodriguez (South Bend, Ind.).
The Pioneers followed with four runs on six hits in the fourth, including RBI singles from junior first baseman Kelsey Edwards (Rockford, Ill.) and junior center fielder Rosie Craine (Wheaton, Ill.). Sophomore left fielder Rosalie Jrolf (Dousman, Wis.) capped the key inning with a two-run double to center field.
Carroll added three runs in the fifth as freshman pinch-hitter Theresa Favia (Bloomindale, Ill.) scored as the result of an error, freshman shortstop Emily Green (Oswego, Ill.) scored on a wild pitch and junior right fielder Annika Graves (Muskego, Wis.) - who went 3-for-4 - delivered an RBI single to left field.
