KENOSHA, Wis. - The Carroll University women's lacrosse team lost to Carthage College 13-7 in a College Conference of Illinois-Wisconsin game at Tarble Arena on Thursday night.
It was the first loss of the season for Carroll, which dropped to 3-1 in the highly contested conference standings and 13-1 overall.
The Pioneers trailed 6-4 with 29 minutes remaining in the contest but yielded three unanswered goals during what proved to be a decisive six-minute stretch.
Freshman midfielders
Clara Jelacic (Waukesha, Wis.) and
Michaela Johnson (Mukwonago, Wis.) each contributed two goals for Carroll, which was outshot 27-19 - including a 23-16 shot-on-goal margin. Junior midfielder
Ariannah Ritter (Sun Prairie, Wis.), freshman midfielder
Courtenay Karls (Waukesha, Wis.) and freshman midfielder
Tillia Dillon (Hanover Park, Ill.) each added a goal.
Johnson and senior attacker
Betty Koenig (Sun Prairie, Wis.) each had an assist for the Pioneers, who won 13 draw controls but committed an uncharacteristic 38 turnovers.
Junior goalkeeper
Shelby Schoob (Sun Prairie, Wis.) registered 10 saves for Carroll, which converted 2 of 6 free-position shot opportunities.
Sophomore attacker Nicole Bowman scored a game-high five goals to lead Carthage, which improved to 2-2 in conference and 10-5 overall.
The Pioneers remain in the hunt for a prestigious CCIW tournament berth with two games left in the regular season.Â
North Central and Illinois Wesleyan (3-0) are currently tied for first place, followed by Carroll and Carthage.
