De Pere, Wis. – The Carroll University Pioneers women's basketball team broke the program record for most 3-point field goals made tonight with 14 made 3-point baskets in the 82-45 victory over St. Norbert College. Sophomore guard
Theresa Wichser scored a season high 18 points (5-7 3PT) in 18 minutes during the contest.
The Pioneers tied the previous record of 10 3-point FG made in the first half, on 62.5% shooting. The Pios were efficient all over the court as well, shooting 28-53 (52.8%) from the floor, and they capitalized on 26 Knights turnovers with 34 points off turnovers. The women's deep bench continued to shine, scoring 36 from
Emily Majerus,
Hailey Herriges, and
Kayla Stefka with eight, eight, and seven, respectively. Majerus added five assists and three steals, while sophomore guard
Sierra Grubor pulled in six rebounds with 13 points.
The Pioneers were neck and neck with the Knights to start the affair, only going up by as much as six points from a three pointer form Herriges in the final minute of the first quarter. The Pioneers changed that in the second quarter, going on a 23-1 scoring streak for the entirety of the quarter. Kicked off by an and-one from Grubor, Wichser lit up and made four straight 3pt jumpers. The Pios went into half time with a 46-23 lead.
The women didn't take their foot off the gas, going on a 9-2 run fueled by a jumper and free throws from sophomore
Katie Evans, who finished with 10 points and five rebounds. When the dust had settled, the Pioneers had finished with the most points scored in a game for them this season so far.
The women will return home next week to face off against Holy Family College in Van Male Field House on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at 6:30 PM.
