Waukesha, Wis. – The Carroll Pioneers women's basketball team cruised to a 99-38 victory over Holy Family College. Sophomore
Kayla Stefka came off the bench and led the Pioneers with a season high 19 points in just 13 minutes of action, adding in three rebounds, an assist, and a blocked shot.
The Pioneers moved to 2-2 overall, while the Lakers fall to 1-7. The Pios controlled the paint tonight with 52 points coming from under the hoop. Led by Stefka,
Megan Madsen (12 pts, 6 reb), and
Hailey Herriges (9 pts, 5 reb, 3 stl), the strong bench scored 62 out of the 99 registered points. The women cleaned the glass with 20 offensive rebounds, led by Amanda Hook's five and Madsen's four.
The action started neck and neck, with Holy Family closing to one early in the first quarter. The Pioneers responded with a three-pointer from
Katie Evans (14 pts, 4-6 FGM), a jumper from
Sierra Grubor (2 pts, 3 reb), and a three from Hooks (9 pts, 7 reb, 1 blk). The Pioneers kicked off what would be a 16-2 run.
The women put their foot on the gas in the second quarter, only scoring 27 while only allowing eight.
Theresa Wichser started the quarter off with a steal and a driving lay-up for a quick, fast break two. The Pios profited off the Lakers' 26 turnovers with 37 points to follow.
The third quarter started with another run of 11-2 for the Pios and they never looked back. Herriges' 9 and Madsen's 8 led the team in the second half.
The Pioneers will have time to relax over the holiday before traveling to Ripon to face the Red Hawks on Saturday, Nov. 30 at 1 PM.
