ROCHESTER, Minn. - Senior right fielder
Annika Graves (Muskego, Wis.) went 2-for-2 and scored a run but the Carroll University softball team lost to Gustavus Adolphus College 10-2 to cap the opening day of the Rochester Dome Tournament at the RCTC Dome on Saturday afternoon.
It was the first loss of the season for Carroll, which dropped to 1-1 overall.
The contest remained scoreless after five complete innings but Gustavus Adolphus responded with six runs on seven hits in the top of the sixth to break the game wide open.
Sophomore shortstop
Jordan Wermund (Stevensville, Mich.) drove in a run on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the sixth and freshman pinch hitter
Katelyn Schneider (Sussex, Wis.) had an RBI single in the seventh for Carroll.
Senior catcher
Veronica Rodriguez (South Bend, Ind.) added two hits for the Pioneers, who finished with seven hits but stranded nine baserunners.
Freshman right-hander
Kaylee Learman (Greenwood, Wis.) took the loss, allowing four earned runs on five hits with two strikeouts and no walks through 3 1/3 innings.
Aly Freeman - a junior - went 3-for-4 with with two RBIs and scored two runs for Gustavus Adolphus, which amassed 14 hits.
Freeman was also the winning pitcher, scattering seven hits with five strikeouts and five walks to earn a complete-game victory.
