Carroll Bounces Back in Convincing Fashion

TUCSON, Ariz. - Carroll University (2-4, 0-0 CCIW) rebounded from a tough loss on Saturday with a convincing 13-1 win on Sunday morning over St. Olaf College (4-2, 0-0 MIAC).

The Pioneer bats showed up early and often.  Carroll hitters started the game with three hits on their way to putting up four runs in the opening frame for the early 4-0 lead.

St. Olaf would tally their only run of the game in the bottom of the first.  A lead-off ground ball through the right side of the infield followed by a double down the right field line would quickly cut the Pio lead to 4-1.

Carroll would respond with a single run in the top of the second and one more in the top of the fourth to push the lead to 6-1.

The Pios would again record three straight hits to lead off the top of the fifth and then tally another run in the sixth for the 8-1 lead.

The Pioneers would put the game away with a five run eighth inning to cruise to the victory.

Mathew Putman continues to have a torrid start to his senior campaign with a 4x5 performance with three runs score and another three driven in.

Senior Alex Kermendy was a perfect 3x3 at the plate with three runs scored to celebrate his 22nd birthday.

Sophomore lefty Curtis Sheahan (1-1) was tremendous on the mound. After surrendering three hits to start the game, he would allow just three more over the next seven innings worked.  He would finish the day with seven strikeouts to earn the victory on the hill.

Carroll will start the second half of their Arizona trip on Monday at 12:30pm when they face NAIA foe Northwestern College.
