CLERMONT, Fla. - Junior designated player
Rosalie Jrolf (Dousman, Wis.) went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs and scored a run as the Carroll University softball team defeated Concordia University Chicago 6-3 to begin its third day of the PFX Spring Games at the Hancock Rec Complex on Monday morning.
It was the fifth consecutive error-free performance for Carroll, which improved to 4-1 on its Florida spring break trip and 5-3 overall.
Senior catcher
Veronica Rodriguez (South Bend, Ind.) went 2-for-3 for the Pioneers, who scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning, three in the third and one in the sixth.
Senior right fielder
Annika Graves (Muskego, Wis.) also had two hits for Carroll, which amassed 10 hits in the contest. Junior third baseman
Lexy Kemnitzer (McFarland, Wis.), sophomore shortstop
Jordan Wermund (Stevensville, Mich.) and freshman left fielder
Katelyn Schneider (Sussex, Wis.) each collected one hit.
Jrolf, who leads the team with a .448 batting average, drove in the opening run of the game on a groundout and Wermund followed with an RBI single to round out a momentum-building two-run first inning.
The Pioneers extended the lead to 5-0 in the third as Kemnitzer scored on an error, Jrolf delivered an RBI double to left field and then later crossed the plate on a bases-loaded walk.
Carroll's final run came in the sixth on an RBI double to left field by Jrolf.
Junior right-hander
Amanda Osterhus (Munster, Ind.) pitched a two-hitter with eight strikeouts and four walks through five complete innings to earn the victory.
Osterhus, who improved to 4-1 overall, has 57 strikeouts with an 1.85 earned run average in 34 innings.
