CLERMONT, Fla. - Senior right fielder Annika Graves (Muskego, Wis.) went 3-for-3 and scored two runs as the Carroll University softball team defeated Delaware Valley University 11-0 in a sunny, warm nonconference matchup to begin its fourth day of the PFX Spring Games at the Hancock Rec Complex on Wednesday afternoon.
It was the first shutout of the season for Carroll, which won its third straight to improve to 6-1 on its Florida spring break trip and 7-3 overall.
The game was limited to five innings as the 10-run mercy rule was enforced.
The Pioneers scored three runs in what became a decisive bottom of the first, six in the second and two in the fourth.
Junior third baseman Lexy Kemnitzer (McFarland, Wis.), freshman left fielder Katelyn Schneider (Sussex, Wis.) and freshman starting pitcher Kaylee Learman (Greenwood, Wis.) each scored on bases-loaded walks for Carroll, which amassed 10 hits in the dominant effort.
Senior catcher Veronica Rodriguez (South Bend, Ind.) ignited the second inning scoring surge with an RBI single to left field, Kemnitzer followed with a two-run double to right-center field while Schneider followed with a two-run triple and scored as the result of an error.
Freshman center fielder Sierra Grubor (Milwaukee, Wis.) had an RBI single to left field and junior designated player Rosalie Jrolf (Dousman, Wis.) in the fourth to round out the scoring for the Pioneers.
Learman, a right-hander, pitched a two-hitter with four strikeouts and one walk through four complete innings to earn her first collegiate victory.
