Pioneers lose nail-biter

Carroll comes up short in loss to Lake Forest to conclude fourth day of the PFX Spring Games

CLERMONT, Fla. - The Carroll University softball team lost a nail-biter to former longtime Midwest Conference rival Lake Forest College 1-0 in a nonconference game to conclude its fourth day of the PFX Spring Games at the Hancock Rec Complex on Wednesday night.
It was the first shutout loss of the season for Carroll, which entered the contest riding the momentum of a three-game winning streak but dropped to 6-2 on its Florida spring break trip and 7-4 overall.
Junior first baseman Riley Frisbie drove in the winning run on a dramatic, two-out walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh for Lake Forest, which improved to 6-4 overall.
Junior right-hander Missy Dieckman-Meyer pitched a two-hitter, including 15 ground outs, to earn a complete-game victory for the Foresters.
Senior first baseman Kelsey Edwards (Rockford, Ill.) and freshman center fielder Sierra Grubor (Milwaukee, Wis.) each had a hit for Carroll, which managed to generate only two baserunners in the contest.
Junior right-hander Amanda Osterhus (Munster, Ind.) took the loss, yielding one run on four hits with 11 strikeouts and no walks.
