CLERMONT, Fla. - Freshman left fielder
Katelyn Schneider (Sussex, Wis.) drove in a run on an RBI groundout in the top of the first inning as the Carroll University softball team lost to Mount St. Joseph University 3-1 to begin its final day of the PFX Spring Games on Friday morning.
Carroll dropped to 7-4 on its Florida spring break trip and 8-6 overall.
Four of Carroll's six losses this season have come by two runs or less.
Mount St. Joseph tied the contest with one run in the bottom of the fourth and added two runs in what proved to be a decisive fifth - capped with RBI singles by left fielder Brooke Otto and winning pitcher Sarah Miller.
Senior right fielder
Annika Graves (Muskego, Wis.) went 2-for-3 and scored a run for Carroll, which collected six hits, stranded two baserunners and committed one error.
Senior catcher
Veronica Rodriguez (South Bend, Ind.), junior designated player
Rosalie Jrolf (Dousman, Wis.), freshman center fielder
Sierra Grubor (Milwaukee, Wis.) and freshman second baseman
Maria Mundt (Milwaukee, Wis.) each added one hit.
Junior right-hander
Amanda Osterhus (Munster, Ind.) took the loss, allowing three runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and one walk through six complete innings.
Miller pitched a six-hitter with four strikeouts and no walks to earn the victory for Mount St. Joseph.
